Empowering women through distributing goats

In May 2023, Care Across Communities (CAC) started the ‘Rural Women Empowerment: Goat Rearing Project’ in Bangladesh. Under this project, women from marginalised Dalit families were given female and male goats with an expectation to reproduce and multiply the number of goats in time. The aim of this project is to financially empower poverty-stricken women so they can achieve their food security. CAC has assigned a veterinarian who is responsible for checking these goats regularly to keep them healthy. CAC’s project implementing partner ‘MAC Bangladesh’ recently organised an awareness event where one of the local government livestock officers attended. The veterinarian vaccinated the beneficiaries’ goats and those of their neighbours with Peste Des Petits Ruminants (PPR) vaccine, ensuring the elimination of any possible health risks to the animals. The veterinarian also shared useful insights with the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries so that they can properly rear their goats.
